Meet our newest member! Oh, he doesn't know it yet, but he will soon after you contact him. Let's face it, all chapters have attrition. The recent loss of our good friend and webmaster Vic Odquist reminds us that we must fill our ranks as our brothers depart. Here are some recruiting tips:
Talk it up. When in the presence of others, casually bring our favorite pastime into the conversation, particularly in front of a potential candidate. Then guide the conversation to an invitation to attend one of our meetings.
Wear your Society pin. In our California lifestyle, few of us wear suit jackets and sport coats any more, but I'm sure you can find a place to tack this colorful little accessory where people can see it. It is always a conversation starter.
Put a "tag" on your email. Just a little line mentioning our craft can bring a response.
Make a list. Write down the names of people you think would enjoy our hobby. Then act on it and pick up the phone. Don't just invite someone, pick him up, bring him to the meeting and make sure he meets everyone. And be sure to tell him that he only needs a desire to sing to join our Society. We'll do the rest.
Let's reinforce our chapter with new members so we can all have more people to sing with.
